I personally LOVE boba of any type but I simply do not have the money to go up to town and buy it every day. So I decided to make it myself! I looked up a couple of recipes but I found that their proportions were slightly off and they made far too much, so I've adjusted the ingredients to what worked for me and I hope work for you too! This recipe makes one large drink and adding tapioca pearls is completely optional so if you don't have any don't worry.

I would also like to say that the measurement of "cup" in this recipe is equal to around 160ml. Yes, I have small cups.

You will need

1 black teabag

1 cup of water for the tea

1/2 a cup of brown sugar

2 teaspoons of black treacle

1/4 of a cup of water for the syrup

1/2 a cup of milk

For the tapioca pearls (optional):

1/2 a cup of tapioca

A cup of water

1 teaspoon of honey

Method

  1. Mix the sugar, treacle and water in a pot on the stove bring to a boil and then down to medium heat. Make sure to stir it occasionally until it is a similar texture to gravy. Once it is done put it to one side.

2. Whilst you are making the syrup (it can take some time) you can make the tea. This is fairly simple, boil the water and leave the teabag to infuse. Take the teabag out and put this to one side.

3. If you are making tapioca pearls bring the water to a boil and then slowly add the tapioca pearls. Lower the heat to simmer and wait until the tapioca pearls are floating.

4. Once the pearls are floating drain the water and leave the pearls to cool in cool water for 20 seconds. Then drain the water again and mix the pearls with the honey. You can put this to one side.

5. Now to combine all the components. Try to drizzle the syrup down the side of your cup. I personally found this quite hard so don't worry if it ends up in a puddle at the bottom. Then add the tea followed by the milk. If you have tapioca pearls add them last.

6. Give a mix! Or a shake if you are lucky enough to have a lid.
